Zoe works on vegetation and climate change

Zoe undertook an undergraduate degree in Molecular and Cellular Biology, before switching her allegiance from the laboratory to the field by undertaking our MSc Applied Ecology course. Through this, Zoe found and developed a love of spatial ecology and is now undertaking a PhD investigating how woodland plant communities across the UK are likely to change as the climate warms.

The first stage of her project combines Geographical Information Systems mapping approaches with statistical analysis to understand the relationship between past climate and woodland community distribution. The second stage will involve manipulation of key climatic variables to predict future biotic changes, which has direct and important implications for ecological monitoring, management and conservation.
