The Certificate of Higher Education (Cert. HE) in Health and Social Care, is taught over two semesters. You will gain experience and knowledge in contemporary health and social care contexts, as you prepare for your future professional career in a dynamic, in-demand role.
If you’re already employed, this course will allow you to continue to earn while you study, as it’s a day release programme. The programme will provide you with the confidence, essential academic theory and practical abilities to pursue a career in health and social care settings, giving you the opportunity to progress on to a relevant full (3 year) degree with us. You’ll also be guaranteed an interview for a professional programme such as Nursing, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy or Social Work, and we’ll fully support you in creating your application and preparing for the interview.
The first 5 weeks of the course is taught at our FCH campus. You will then continue your studies at our Oxstalls Campus with our Nursing and Paramedic Science courses, providing access to specialist facilities including a bungalow where we can simulate various health and social care scenarios. Teaching is delivered by highly competent academics with significant experience in a range of health and social care settings including nursing and social work.

Study style
Our curriculum includes a mix of active learning in classroom, online and placement settings. This will help build your knowledge and care experience. Whilst on placement you apply theory to practice, reflecting on what you do with experienced professionals in real-world settings. Taking advantage of our state-of-the-art facilities including simulated care settings, you’ll learn from accomplished and accredited lecturers with extensive knowledge of the health and social care field.

Grade 4/C in English and Maths is not required for this course.
Mature Applicants: We welcome applications from mature students (aged 21 and over) and do not necessarily require the same academic qualifications as school leaving applicants.
Please note: To progress onto one of our full professional courses (for example Nursing, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy or Social Work) you must have achieved a minimum of GCSE grade 4/C or above in English Language and Mathematics, or equivalent. Completion of the Health & Social Care (Cert HE) will not qualify as an alternative to these minimum requirements.
