India Protocol

Last updated: 9 March 2021

Cheltenham Guardians have a core mission to proactively engage with lone females who are on a night out. This comes after 20-year-old, India Eve Chipchase, was raped and murdered by a sexual predator after leaving a nightclub in Northampton.

Although the crime did not occur locally, it could. Therefore, India Protocol was introduced to prevent this fateful scenario from happening again.

As part of this hugely successful initiative, uniformed guardian officers stop negative and potentially fatal situations before they can escalate. And for every 10 proactive India Protocol approaches the team make, around 3 will result in further action or intervention by their experienced safeguarding team.

While India Protocol remains a priority, their safeguarding remit extends to all patrons of the evening and night-time economy. Whether that’s visitors to the town or existing residents – regardless of their age, sex or status.

Ultimately, Cheltenham Guardians vow to protect young adults in Cheltenham – and that’s exactly what they continue to do.
