Student Guide to Learning Analytics and Attendance

Last updated: 23 April 2026

What is learning analytics?

Learning analytics brings together information about your course activity to help you and your tutors spot patterns, celebrate progress and offer timely support. It is used to enhance your learning experience and is not used for summative assessment or to take significant action about you without a person involved.

How it helps you

What data we use right now

We explain these data in your Student Privacy Notice and keep them under review as services evolve.

Your choices and controls

Notifications and prompts: you choose whether to receive them and you can change your preferences in the app later.

Checking in to sessions: if you use the app for attendance, you can allow location services on your device. This is optional, and there are alternative ways to record attendance if you prefer not to share location. When location is used for check-in, Jisc obfuscates it and does not store your real-world location in the Learning Data Hub.
