Choose the right accommodation for you

Struggling to choose which type of accommodation is right for you?

We’ve pulled together some key facts about halls of residence, university-approved private housing and lodgings to help you make the right decision.​​​​​​​

Halls of residence

Where? On each campus and in Cheltenham and Gloucester

What? Flats, townhouses and studios owned and managed by the university or our partners

Who? Suitable for all students: new, returning, postgraduate and international

Utilities: Rent includes water, electricity, gas, internet and basic contents insurance

Catering: Self-catered

Contract length: 40 weeks (variable contracts available)

Benefits

  • Plenty of locations and options to choose from across all campuses, from townhouses to enhanced en-suites and studios
  • Facilities vary by location, but can include a refectory, laundry, sports pitches, gym, dance studio, faith space, table tennis, student union bar and more
  • Residential support team always on hand to support you during your time in halls and play an active role in your welfare
  • 24/7 on-site security​

Private housing

​Where? Off campus in Cheltenham & Gloucester

What? Houses rented privately through a letting agent or landlord with a tenancy agreement and approved by the university

Who? For students who want to move beyond campus and live independently, with groups or individually

Utilities: Most rents include utilities, but non-inclusive rents are also available

Catering: Self-catered

Contract length: Variable, usually 40 – 52 weeks

Benefits

  • Choose a property from the university approved housing list which includes accommodation from registered landlords
  • Flexibility – choose where you want to live in Cheltenham or Gloucester, who you live with and which letting agent/landlord to rent from
    Facilities vary depending on the house you choose, but may include a private gardens, lounges and other communal spaces
  • Learn to be independent by living in the local commu​nity

Lodgings

Where? Off campus in Cheltenham & Gloucester

What? A rented bedroom in a private house – living with the landlord

Who? Great for international students and those studying short courses

Utilities: Rent includes water, electricity, gas and internet (and catering depending on option chosen)

Catering: Self-catered, Half-board & B&B options.

Contract length: As agreed (no fixed-term)

Benefits

  • Plenty of options across Cheltenham and Gloucester
  • Choose from a list of lodgings approved by the university
  • Good value, short-term accommodation with bills included in your rent
    Flexible contract without a fixed term period means that you don’t need to pay rent for longer than you need to
  • Choose the catering option that works best for you from self-catered, half-board or bed & breakfast
