Insight Talks
Our talks can be delivered in school, on campus or online.
Our Insight Talks have been designed to offer guidance and support for students beginning their higher education (HE) research and application process, introduce some of the courses we offer at University of Gloucestershire, and explore the benefits of HE in general.
Talks are available throughout the academic year from 2 September to 31 July, subject to staff availability. The location and format offered varies depending on the chosen talk (see below) or distance staff are required to travel.

These are subject-specific talks that we offer for all courses taught at undergraduate level. Sessions give learners an exclusive insight into what makes studying their chosen subject at University of Gloucestershire a distinctive and rewarding experience.
Drawing on our emphasis on real-world learning, small supportive teaching groups, industry‑informed course design and strong practitioner links, these talks reveal how our approach helps students develop the confidence, skills and experience that employers value.
Each session highlights the opportunities available across our campuses – from specialist facilities and hands‑on projects to placements, fieldwork and personalised academic support – while offering a clear overview of how the subject is taught, what students can expect, and where the degree can take them.
With time for questions, learners gain a genuine feel for the UoG experience and an informed understanding of how studying this subject with us can shape their future.

Let us guide your students through the student finance system by outlining the funding available and how to apply for it, alongside helpful tips for budgeting as a university student.

Give your students the confidence and clarity they need to put together a personal statement.
Our personal statement workshop is designed to give students a clear framework for approaching one of the most important elements of the UCAS application. With competition increasing across courses and institutions, our outreach team can support learners approach their applications with confidence.
The session will include structured drafting time so students can begin shaping key sections of their statement straight away. The session can last from 30/45 minutes based on school timings.

Give your students the confidence and clarity they need to put together a personal statement.
As an individual option or following on from the personal statement workshop, students can benefit from a more personalised 1:1 session to gain support and feedback around their personal statement draft.
The session will allow students to gather feedback and take away points to focus on as they progress with completing this important aspect of their UCAS application.

Our Outreach Team can offer support in school with 1:1 mock interviews to help students build confidence, sharpen their communication skills, and understand what employers and admissions tutors are really looking for.
NB: These sessions are limited and dependent on staff availability. Each 1:1 interview would last approximately 15-20 minutes.

Our Student Experience talks offer an opportunity to hear directly from a current University of Gloucestershire student who is actively studying the subject they’re interested in, providing an authentic, insider perspective that goes beyond standard course information.
Delivered by student ambassadors with real experiences to share, these sessions give students an honest, engaging look at university study – from academic expectations and assessment styles to placements, facilities, societies and the realities of day-to-day student life.
With the chance to ask questions throughout, students gain invaluable insight into what studying their chosen subject truly involves, helping them make confident, informed decisions about their future and offering a unique glimpse into the opportunities, challenges and rewards of university life.

The aim of the session is to encourage students to become detectives of the past; conducting research, finding new interpretations and forming arguments based on the facts that they discover.
We will also discuss the skills needed to become a historian, as well as the jobs available to you when you study History.

Discover what truly makes a great sports coach in this interactive workshop. Students will explore effective and ineffective coaching behaviours, learn the principles of athlete centred coaching, and apply these ideas to ‑real life scenarios. Through discussion and ‑hands-on activities, participants will gain insight into how coaching style influences athlete motivation, development and team culture, while also learning about the wide range of ‑sport related‑ careers and skills developed through studying sport.

Explore the wide range of professional roles that work together to support athlete performance in this interactive workshop. Students will learn about key support positions, from coaching and sports psychology to physiotherapy, performance analysis, and welfare, and apply sport science knowledge to real athlete case studies.
Through group tasks and scenario-based activities, participants will further their understanding of the skills and decision making required‑ in these roles while gaining insight into future career pathways across the sport industry.

In this session, students will brainstorm creative solutions to a series of societal problems to highlight the value of arts education. Students will work together to myth bust common misunderstandings about arts subjects and learn more about career pathways available to creative graduates.
This session is perfect for students who are unsure about the value of studying arts and humanities at level 3 and above.

This session is all about the power of collaboration in Health and Social Care; helping students to understand the breadth of careers available and the impact that each professional has on the safety of a patient.
Students will take an interactive quiz to discover the variety of roles available to them in the NHS and work together to plan a response to a major incident. Information about applications, interviews and pathways will also be provided to help students to consider their next steps in Health and Social Care.

This session introduces students to studying Psychology at degree level. We explore how everyday experiences may have psychological explanations and the impact that research can have on the real-world.
The session is designed to get students to begin thinking like a psychologist and understanding how the skills learnt in a Psychology degree are transferrable across a breadth sectors.

In this session, students are introduced to a historic case; they are asked to develop complex arguments to decide the fate of those of trial. Students will work as a team and practise their mooting skills, giving an insight into how interactive a Law degree can be.
We also explore the different skills that Law students as part of their studies and discuss how these are applicable to a wide range of sectors upon graduation.

Travel funding
We recognise that rising costs can make organising travel challenging. To help, funding is available to support travel to and from campuses for our activities. Please get in touch to discuss what your school or college may be able to claim.*
*Funding is allocated on a first-come, first-served basis and must be claimed within 30 days of your visit. Schools and colleges are responsible for arranging travel directly with a provider. Reimbursement will be made to the school or college, subject to minimum student numbers and all paperwork being completed correctly within the timeframe.
