Literary and Critical Studies

Dr Charlotte Beyer is a contemporary literature specialist with a background in gender and women's studies. She has published widely on crime fiction and welcomes enquiries from prospective research students.


Dr Charlotte Beyer is a contemporary literature specialist, with a background in gender and women's studies. She is widely published in crime fiction, and regularly presents papers at conferences in Britain and abroad. She is currently Co-Investigator on an RCUK-funded research project. Charlotte is an experienced postgraduate supervisor with successful completions and examinations. She welcomes enquiries from prospective research students in any of her specialisms.

My research encompasses subjects such as crime fiction, motherhood and maternal perspectives, travel writing, migration, and human trafficking. I am currently working on several books under contract with Palgrave and Demeter Press.


I am editor/co-editor of the books Teaching Crime Fiction (Palgrave, 2018); Mothers Without Their Children (Demeter, 2019); and Travellin' Mama: Mothers, Mothering, and Travel (Demeter, 2019).
