Teacher Education

At the University of Gloucestershire, Ruth is a Senior Lecturer in Primary Education and part of the Primary Maths Team.


Ruth Hollier joined the Primary Education Team in October 2013 after almost twenty years of Primary school teaching. Having enjoyed a rewarding and varied career as an outstanding class teacher, Deputy Head teacher and as a mentor supporting trainee teachers in school, she welcomed the opportunity to become more involved in Initial Teacher Education.

Ruth’s expertise lies in Maths education. She is involved with developments in Mathematics Education at local and national level, working within the University of Gloucestershire’s Primary Maths Team, which acts as a strategic partner in the GLOW Maths Hub. Currently active projects include professional development for NQTs, a project aimed at supporting the three main aims of fluency, reasoning and problem solving in the National Curriculum

Ruth also teaches other primary curriculum subjects and contributes to professional studies modules at both undergraduate and post-graduate level. She is a personal tutor and dissertation supervisor. Ruth also supports students in a link tutor capacity while they are on placement in school.

Subject leadership in primary schools, leadership and management of change in eductaional settings, learning theory, mentoring and coaching are also areas of expertise.
