Mariana Roccia is a Research Associate at University of Gloucestershire, specialising in ecolinguistics, research impact, eco-social AI and digital transformation. Her research explores how language, narratives and knowledge shape relationships between society, ecology and technology, and how research can contribute to meaningful social and ecological change. Her interests include religious ecolinguistics, environmental discourse, AI-mediated communication and the development of impact-informed approaches to research.
Her interdisciplinary work brings together perspectives from linguistics, ecology, religion and artificial intelligence, with a focus on developing approaches that support more ecologically aware and socially responsible futures.
Mariana’s research focuses on ecolinguistics, religious ecolinguistics, eco-social AI and research impact. She is interested in how language and narratives shape relationships between humans, the more-than-human world and technology.
Her current work explores AI-mediated environmental discourse, ecological approaches to artificial intelligence, and the development of research impact frameworks that support meaningful social and ecological change. She is also involved in Ecophora, a University of Gloucestershire-funded project exploring eco-social AI and collective intelligence.

Mariana is co-convenor of the International Ecolinguistics Association and an editor of Advances in Ecolinguistics. She is also a member of the British Association for Applied Linguistics and a Full Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists.
