Alessio Venturi

Part-Time Academic Staff

I believe that to create better, more elegant, adaptable, efficient, and sustainable buildings, we must teach future designers how to achieve these goals. My aim is to support students in reaching this standard through tailored guidance, as every building is unique, and so are the students.

Biography

I am an architect and academic with over 20 years of international experience. I earned my Master’s degree in Architecture from Università di Roma TRE, where I began teaching while still a student.

Throughout my career, I’ve led major projects such as One Hyde Park in London and the Pullman Hotel in Abidjan, and I founded Venturi Architects in 2012.

My academic work includes guest lectures leading hospitality design workshops at Univerisita’ di Roma TRE, and teaching third-year studio design as a Lecturer in Architecture at University of Gloucestershire, where I integrate practice and education.

Teaching & Research

Teaching

I am responsible of the two design studios of the third year, AD6623 and AD6624.

Architecture studio design is a hands-on learning environment where students develop, refine, and present architectural designs. It focuses on creativity, technical skills, and critical thinking. Students engage in research, conceptualisation, and prototyping, while receiving feedback through regular critiques. This dynamic process allows them to address real-world challenges and refine their designs in a collaborative space, bridging theory and practice.

Research

My research explores the interaction between hospitality and residential architecture, focusing on how these two distinct typologies can benefit from incorporating elements of one another. I am currently writing a manual on designing hotel and hospitality spaces, aiming to provide guidelines for creating functional and innovative environments.

Additionally, I am conducting an analysis of three traditional hospitality venues – the Italian bar, the British pub, and the French bistro – exploring their cultural and spatial differences and how these typologies influence architectural design.

Lastly, I am developing ‘House A’, a prototype for sustainable and affordable residential units designed to address the need for eco-friendly housing solutions.
