Alex Ward

Senior Lecturer in Sports Journalism

I am passionate about sport and as well as covering professional matches and events, I am heavily involved at grassroots level, with experience of coaching kids’ football and rugby.

Biography

I am intrigued by how advances in technology continue to transform sports journalism, the ways that we share information and how we tell stories.

I joined University of Gloucestershire in 2022 from the University of Derby where I worked for 5 years as a lecturer on the football and sports journalism programmes. During that period, I completed my PGCHE, became a Fellow of the HEA and was also involved in covering the 2019 European Games in Minsk and the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games for the official news service.

My main area of expertise is video and social media content production, having previously held the post of video manager in the communications department at Wolverhampton Wanderers Football Club. During my nine years at Wolves, I was responsible for developing and producing content for the official website and social media channels as well as working closely with club stakeholders and local, national and international media organisations.

Before my time at Wolves, I spent two years as a broadcast journalist on local radio.
