Chris heads up the officiating scholarship within the sports scholarship scheme.

Biography

Chris was a former professional rugby union referee for 12 years and appeared at 3 consecutive World Cup Final tournaments including refereeing the 2003 semi final between New Zealand and Australia and the third place final that year between France and the All Blacks. Chris refereed for 17 continuous years in the Premiership as well as 4 European Cup Finals.

Chris is now the RFU ‘s Referee academy manager. In 2005 Chris helped set up the unique referee scholarship at UoG which has currently got 20 scholars and a growing band of highly successful alumni – now operating in levels including International rugby, the Rugby Premiership , the Football Championship and Women’s super league as well as numerous supporting leagues. Chris is a keen Cheltenham Town fan and local cricket player.
