Debbie offers a blend of academic rigour with practical industry insights, creating learning experiences that are both theoretically grounded and immediately applicable. She consistently employs an EDI-focused approach, ensuring that all training and development initiatives are inclusive, empowering, and conducive to positive individual and organisational change.
Previous research interests have focused on the Voice of the Child and the importance of this in research and practice. Debbie is an advocate in ensuring that marginalised voices are heard and when needed amplified to ensure more equitable practices in education.
Now with her role focused on adult learners, her research interest has shifted the lived experiences of staff new to higher education, how to support their learning and teaching and their growth through coaching and mentoring.
Her most recent research focuses on Coaching to support an entrepreneurial mindset in staff new to teaching in Higher Education promoting self-confidence, initiative, creativity, risk-taking, and problem-solving abilities.
In addition to teaching and research, Debbie is a qualified coach, with her approach grounded in a strong commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion. She believes that individuals deserves a supportive space to find their voice, challenge barriers, and drive meaningful change.
As an ILM Level 5 certified coach and an Aurora mentor, she draws on proven frameworks and a deep understanding of the sector to help clients build confidence, develop leadership skills, and achieve their goals. Debbie actively supports clients in amplifying diverse voices and driving EDI initiatives within their teams and organisations.
