Fiona Curran

DHOS - Creative Arts

I am a film maker who works experimentally with sound, film and poetry.

My work is poetic, visual, sonic & installation based, and my most recent six film art cycle, The Scientist Series, deals with manifestations of death, grief and resurgence. These films have been shown nationally and internationally at galleries and screenings. I am poet working on a third collection which speaks to fashion, disguise and clothing as illusion.

Teaching & Research

Fiona is Academic Subject leader for Film, Television and Animation. She teaches across Sound Design for Film and Television, Experimental Film Making, and Documentary.

My practice-based research centres on the interplay of poetics and the visual; with an interest in female portraiture and the use of the close up in experimental visual work. All my film work is mediated through sonic reduction and aims towards the aural/visual vanishing point.
