Jemma Devlin

Careers and Employability Specialist

I am a Careers and Employability Specialist working with the School of Business, Computing and Social Sciences. In my role I work closely with academics to provide in curriculum, tailored careers delivery and support, that aims to inspire students to consider their career options and to support them with their graduate careers.

Biography

Coming from a HR background I believe in the value of work experience, job readiness and working closely with employers to help develop student’s confidence, employability skills and preparation for the workplace.

I started my career as a HR Generalist working for organisations in London and Gloucestershire, as my HR career evolved, I specialised in Learning and Development. After working in HR for 12 years, I was keen to take my commercial and HR experience and knowledge and support students who were at the start of their careers.

I have been working at the University for 8 years and started as a Work Placement Co-ordinator. I really enjoyed working with students to understand their career interests, and to help them find and apply for different placement opportunities. This led to me studying for my L6 Diploma in Careers Advice and Guidance which I completed in 2022.

In the same year, I moved into my current role and have really enjoyed the opportunity to work closely with the Schools and students to understand their subject areas, and to immerse myself in the world of careers and its future opportunities.
