Jessica MacDonald

Careers and Employability Officer

I am committed to helping students envision and achieve their future goals beyond their academic journey. My passion for this role is deeply rooted in my diverse career experiences, which have shaped my understanding and approach to career development.

Biography

Throughout my professional journey, I have embraced various career paths, each contributing unique insights and skills to my current role. My background as an Interior Designer allowed me to hone my creativity, project management, and client relationship abilities. Running my own retail business as an entrepreneur taught me the intricacies of business operations, strategic planning, and customer service and most importantly resilience!

This personal experience led me to University of Gloucestershire in 2015 where I began working as a Business Start-Up Advisor, guiding and supporting aspiring local entrepreneurs, including many of our own students. During this time, I also returned to my studies to complete a master’s as part of my continued professional development as a mature student.

My latest step into the careers team made good use of my Transferable skills and life experiences but was also a great new challenge for me. The foremost thing that I love about being part of the Careers and Employability team at University of Gloucestershire is exploring the great number of possibilities and opportunities that stand ahead of our students, during and after their studies. I fully understand that career paths often change and diversify as we progress through life, I’ve already had several career pivots and it’s something I share with students.
