Katharina Hoerath

Senior Lecturer In Architecture

My passion for architecture extends beyond conventional boundaries, focusing on themes of sensorial experience, diversity, and sustainability.

Biography

I am a co-founder and director of the architecture and design firm K-Works Studio and privileged to have been teaching architecture at prestigious schools like Parsons New School in NYC and now at University of Gloucestershire. Originally having grown up in Austria, I spent most of my academic and professional career in the United States and the United Kingdom.

At K-Works Studio, I am committed to exploring the tactile and tangible elements of architectural design, as well as the intricate relationship between material cycles, time, and geology. My work spans various scales, from conceptual exhibitions to the creation of innovative residential and retail spaces. In addition to my academic and professional pursuits, I am honoured to serve as a trustee of the Wilson Art Museum in Cheltenham, contributing to the cultural enrichment of our community.

My dedication to advancing architectural discourse has been recognised through numerous accolades, including awards such as best large office space from Contract Magazine, and retail design awards for renowned brands like Harry’s of London and Jimmy Choo, Hospitality Design Magazines, or publications at ACADIA (The Association for Computer Aided Design in Architecture).

I am excited to share my knowledge and passion for architecture with the vibrant community here at University of Gloucestershire, fostering creativity, critical thinking, and excellence in architectural education.
