Kimberly Hall

Senior Lecturer in Illustration

My multidisciplinary practice is at the intersection of surface and meaning, with a focus on sustainability and socially responsive design. Community and collaboration form the heart of learning and growing in my studio and with my students. The stories we tell are how we make the future.

Biography

Kim received a BFA in studio art from the Museum School in Boston and an MA in Textile Futures from Central St Martins in London. Her work has been recognised by American Illustration and the Society of Publication Designers, and in profiles in Cool Hunting, Design Milk, and Dwell magazine.

She has been in residence at John Hopkins Extreme Materials Institute (2018) and Winterthur Museum and Garden (2020) and she has public murals in Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York, and in the UK. Her first book, an illustrated food history, was published in 2019 with Abrams Books and other clients include Anthropologie, Brooklyn Industries, Chronicle Books, and Crate & Barrel Kids.

Her teaching practice is rooted in liberatory education her research interests are around personal and social histories and how they move and change in communities. She is interested in the narrative possibilities of home made objects and the way that pattern can play a role in that function.
