Nic graduated with a BA in Photographic Art (Film) from the University of Westminster, which paved the way for a successful career as a Director of Photography across various formats and media, ranging from celluloid to high-end digital. Nic’s filmography includes Before You Go starring Julie Walters, and early work within the VFX Unit on David Fincher’s Alien 3, which was nominated for the Academy Award in Visual Effects. Alongside film, Nic has extensive experience in advertising and television. He has worked on numerous prestigious advertising campaigns, and won a string of awards including the D&AD award for Cinematography and the Grand Prix at Cannes.
As a 4K Independent Certified Expert (ICE), Nic is well-versed with digital acquisition and workflows, and has been involved with Sony on their 8K/4K high end cameras. He was involved with the prototype top end feature camera, the Sony F65, shooting in 4K for the showcase film at the National Association of Broadcasters’ annual trade show in Las Vegas.
Nic has been the cinematographer on several leading BBC hit programmes, including the BAFTA nominated Being Human, Spooks, Hustle and Dr Who.
Boasting significant experience in film education, Nic previously led the filmmaking programme at the Arts University Bournemouth, was the MA Cinematography Programme Leader at Met Film School, and served as an External Examiner at the The Hull School of Art & Design, Faculty of Arts, Hull College.
Nic’s recent work as Director of Photography includes ‘Jekyl & Hyde’ and ‘The Loch’, both for ITV Studios.
