Simon Hyde-White

Biography

I joined the Primary Education Team in 2012 after teaching for 20 years in primary classrooms. My varied career encompassed RE, Mathematics and PE subject leadership, in addition to senior leadership. I teach on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, specialising in RE, a subject I believe to be vital in today’s pressured and ever changing world. I also lecture in how to effectively teach primary physical education (PE).

I also train our students in how to undertake Philosophy for Children (P4C) in schools, a powerful pedagogy which gives all children a voice and the chance to initiate and debate issues pertinent to their everyday lives such as friendships, right and wrong, ambition and temptation.

My Masters research focused on exploring the impact of specialist school-based practice on trainees’ confidence and competence to progress pupils’ learning and personal spirituality and provide for individual and diverse needs.
