Dr Yvette Putra

Senior Lecturer In Architecture

My goal is to respond to current and future challenges for architecture by collaborating with and encouraging others to practise more adaptively, ethically, and thoughtfully.

I studied architecture and worked in architectural practice before pursuing an academic career. Prior to joining the University of Gloucestershire in 2022, I taught and researched for over twelve years – in architectural design, history, and theory; art history; and urban history and theory – at the University of Melbourne, Deakin University, and the University of New South Wales.

  • PhD, University of Melbourne
  • Master of Design (Heritage), University of Melbourne
  • Bachelor of Architecture, University of Melbourne
  • Bachelor of Planning and Design (Architecture), University of Melbourne

Teaching & Research

My teaching emphasises the propinquity of architectural design, history, and theory, and is undergirded by the belief that architects should be not just intuitive, but also informed.

My research chiefly provokes intersections – of architectural representation and art, cultural, and social histories – in underrepresented groups and regions, and deploys counter-hegemonic and multinational approaches.
