This three-year programme is a fantastic and unique opportunity for students to learn in a professional environment, developing the skills needed for a successful career in nursing. The programme, which is split between academic study and practice, will allow candidates to experience all aspects of nursing with a flexible approach to learning.

In addition to the required three days per week of allocated clinical practice throughout the programme that takes place in Swindon and the surrounding area, regular clinical skills will be taught on our Oxstalls campus in Gloucester alongside academic support from UoG, meaning it’s ideal for students who like to take a hands-on approach to learning. The flexibility around some of the online delivery of academic content of this course also makes it the perfect option for an individual who wants to learn on the job and may prefer the option to work around existing commitments.

The course is delivered in partnership with Great Western Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

A typical week

The online classes are taught by UoG on our ‘virtual campus’ and usually take place one day per week, so you don’t need to attend the university in person as often as you would on our on-campus degree. You’ll also need to spend roughly one day per week on independent study.

The rest of the week on the course involves face-to-face learning through skills practice, either at an NHS centre within your pod area or at our Oxstalls campus in Gloucester, and placements (usually three per week) within local NHS services in Swindon.

These placements vary over the course of your degree to meet the NMC requirements and include fields such as general and specialist medicine and surgery, care across the lifespan, home nursing and mental health.
