Business, Entrepreneurship and Financial Management

Adventure leisure and tourism is my main passion in life. I managed outdoor adventure centres before joining academia and love being able to research and teach in that and other management contexts.

I am fascinated by people's experiences of outdoor adventure activities: how the quality of those experiences is influenced by industry professionals, or how people just get out there, do their own thing and create their own high quality experience; all in nature's own playground that needs sustainable management. This can relate to leisure, tourism, sport, hospitality, or more general services management including consumer behaviour, service operations and strategy; I think that is an exciting mix of subjects to study and research!

Teaching and research

I encourage my students to develop their critical understanding of theoretical principals applied to real world issues and, particularly at Master's and Doctoral level, establish a position in those debates for their own research.

Undergraduate, Postgraduate

My research interest is how the service experience is co-created, consumed and managed in service industries, particularly using qualitative approaches to seek deeper meaning and understanding.
