Welcome from your Head of School
The creative world is changing. Creative practice is no longer just about making work or telling stories, it is about understanding the market and developing our identity and brand.
As a creative community with great heritage, our School is preparing students for this new landscape through the provision of education, knowledge and choices. Arrive here and the first thing we will ask you is what do you want to do when you leave? We are opening up an entire world that takes you on a journey. You will be empowered, challenged, developed. You will discover your voice. Everyone wants to employ people who can think.
We are excited to meet you at one of our upcoming interview days, see examples of your work and hear the ideas that inspired it. In turn, we hope that you will feel inspired by our creative community.
Angus Pryor, Head of School of Arts, Culture and Environment

Your interview
Our first tip is to start getting your thoughts together now – think about your interests and why you are passionate about this subject and the industry. Try to remember we’re on your side and we won’t be asking you any trick questions – we want you to be excited and ace this interview! Good luck.
Essential information
Our Interview Days are designed to offer you a snapshot of what it is like to study at the University of Gloucestershire, so it’s not just about the interview we want you to view our facilities, get involved in a workshop, interactive session or lecture, meet with our academic teams, chat with current students, tour the campus and visit the accommodation you may be living in. Please note that although you are asked to register for 12pm your interview time will be allocated on the day and expect to be with us for the afternoon. We also welcome parents/guests to our interview day and hold a special Q&A for them whilst you are attending your interview.
The interview itself will last around 20 minutes and is designed to be supportive and relaxed. You will also take part in a workshop as part of a group, which will help you get a feel for the course.
You will be sent an email with important details and information about your interview. Please read this through carefully.
If you have any questions or require more information about your interview, please contact our admissions team on 03330 141414 or email [email protected].
Our interview process aims to establish how well you would suit our Sound and Music Production course and how well we would suit you. We are looking for evidence of a strong work ethic, a creative mindset and a willingness to engage with technology and production. We would like to discuss your ideas, influences, achievements and aspirations.
You will need to send a portfolio of work in advance of the interview day and then be prepared to talk through your work in the interview.
You will also take part in a practical session that further explores the subject area and allows you to understand and experience some of the specialist teaching.
How to prepare your portfolio
You will need to create and send in advance of the interview:
• A recorded sound and music portfolio from previous learning and/or experience, which demonstrates your skills in music technology. This might be audio as recorded compositions or video of sound related work. We ask that you send work as a link to either files (Onedrive / Googledrive / Dropbox etc (not Wetransfer or time limited file transfer) or as links to streamed media – Youtube/Soundcloud etc. Making a portfolio webpage or linktree is also an option. Place your links onto word or pdf documents.
• Bringing and having access to your work on the day will also be useful
How to send us your digital portfolio?
Please send your digital portfolio to the following mailbox, [email protected] (Max. 50MB), at least 7 days before your interview.
In the email subject box please put your full name, student number, course title and interview date. Also use this information within the file name for your portfolio.
You should use the interview process to find out more about the course, its staff, facilities, social life and job prospects. Prepare questions and make sure you find out what you need to know.
What should you wear?
Please just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.
We believe that meeting our applicants and giving them the opportunity to mix with our staff and students, as well as explore our facilities, is the best way to help them make the important decision about their choice of university. But if for any reason you are unable to travel to the University for this event please let us know and we will arrange an online interview.
