Frequently asked questions
Career promise
-
We’re confident that our incredible students will be able to secure jobs soon after leaving University, not only due to the real-world experience and industry connections they gain on their course, but also due to our Student Futures offering. This includes our professional mentoring programme and support to develop your career roadmap.
However, if you haven’t managed to secure paid experience 6 months after you’ve graduated, we’re still here to support you. If you contact the Career Studio, a Career Coach will work with you to identify your motivations, explore options and support you into work or further study.
If you are unable to secure work or further study after working with a Career Coach consistently for 6 months, we will offer you a paid internship (minimum 4 weeks in duration, 22 hours per week) to enhance your career prospects further.
-
Gloucestershire is home to many employers, large and small. There are also a number of UoG alumni who can offer internship opportunities.
We have regular careers events where you can meet employers and we strongly encourage that you do so to increase your network and get a feel for what employers are looking for.
-
The internships will be for a minimum of 4 weeks in duration, for 22 hours per week.
Locations of internships will vary and every internship will be paid based on the National Living Wage.
-
As a current UoG student you are eligible for the Career Promise.
-
The Career Promise is available to all UoG graduates who meet all of the eligibility conditions, and who have a legal right to work in the UK.
Unfortunately, if you need a visa to work in the UK, we will not be able to offer an internship, but we would be happy to help you explore further study options.
-
If you decide your next step is a postgraduate qualification, we’ll support you to secure a place at University of Gloucestershire. As a UoG alumni you’re also entitled to a discount on your tuition fees.
-
In addition to the career promise, we are proud to offer lifetime career coaching to all of our graduates.
This means that any graduate at any point can contact the Career Studio to receive support from one of our Career Coaches or, if relevant, members of the wider Student Futures team.
“UoG does a great deal to give students employment opportunities. In the first 3 months of my course I went to two careers fairs where global companies presented career opportunities.”
Samuel Kofi Amoako – read his story.
