Welcome from your Head of School
The creative world is changing. Creative practice is no longer just about making work or telling stories, it is about understanding the market and developing our identity and brand.
As a creative community with great heritage, our School is preparing students for this new landscape through the provision of education, knowledge and choices. Arrive here and the first thing we will ask you is what do you want to do when you leave? We are opening up an entire world that takes you on a journey. You will be empowered, challenged, developed. You will discover your voice. Everyone wants to employ people who can think.
We are excited to meet you at one of our upcoming interview days, see examples of your work and hear the ideas that inspired it. In turn, we hope that you will feel inspired by our creative community.
Angus Pryor, Head of School of Arts, Culture and Environment

Your interview
Our first tip is to start getting your thoughts together now – think about your interests and why you are passionate about this subject and the industry. Try to remember we’re on your side and we won’t be asking you any trick questions – we want you to be excited and ace this interview! Good luck.
Essential information
Our Interview Days are designed to offer you a snapshot of what it is like to study at the University of Gloucestershire, so it’s not just about the interview we want you to view our facilities, get involved in a workshop, interactive session or lecture, meet with our academic teams, chat with current students, tour the campus and visit the accommodation you may be living in. Please note that although you are asked to register for 12pm your interview time will be allocated on the day and expect to be with us for the afternoon. We also welcome parents/guests to our interview day and hold a special Q&A for them whilst you are attending your interview. The interview process for Music Business is about establishing whether our course is the right match for you, not just the other way round.
Your interview will last around 30-45 minutes and is designed to be supportive and relaxed. You will also take part in a workshop/discussion as part of a group, which will help you get a feel for the course, while being able to chat and gain support from current students.
You will be sent an email with important details and information about your interview: please read this through carefully as it will include specific details of what you can expect and what you will need to prepare for the day.
If you have any questions or require more information about your interview, please contact our admissions team on 03330 141414 or email [email protected].
We are looking for students with a good work ethic, a creative mindset and a willingness to engage with complex ideas. Come prepared with knowledge and insight into the music industries – current news, trends and developments. Look at musicbusinessworldwide.com, listen to The Money Trench podcast.
We’d specifically like to know of your future plans and ambitions, because the course is designed to back you in gaining great professional experiences and to prepare for your ideal job on graduation.
You may not know exactly what kind of career you want right now, but you probably know what sorts of experiences you are keen to get, so this is our chance to start that conversation.
What we may ask you?
• Which areas of the music business are you particularly focused on?
• What aspirations and ambitions do you have for the next one to three years?
• What personal or group projects have you already worked on which have inspired you?
• How do you think our course could help you achieve your goals?
• What is going on in music culture right now that is of particular interest to you?
• What other interests and/or values inspire your work?
What should I bring?
If there are examples of previous or current work, or projects which you think it would be great to share with us, please post them online (blog, private YouTube account, Soundcloud etc.) and share, so we can view them on the day.
On our course, we express and include diverse skills and approaches across the fields of music, art, tech and music business, so please value your project work across multiple disciplines: art, languages, business, media, tech, culture, law, science and economics, for instance.
The main point is this: please value all your qualities, achievements, skills and experiences and feel confident to express them and discuss them in interview.
What should you wear?
Please just wear whatever you feel most comfortable in.
We believe that meeting our applicants and giving them the opportunity to mix with our staff and students, as well as explore our facilities, is the best way to help them make the important decision about their choice of university. But if for any reason you are unable to travel to the University for this event please let us know and we will arrange an online interview.
If you have any questions or require more information about your interview, please contact our admissions team on 03330 141414 or email [email protected].
