F1 presenter Laura Winter to mentor sports journalism students

Broadcaster, podcaster and event host Laura Winter will share her knowledge and experience with future sports journalists after being appointed to a new role at University of Gloucestershire.

Laura, who has broadcasted at some of the biggest sporting events in the world as presenter and roving reporter, will mentor students working towards a degree in Sports Journalism as a new course associate within the University’s School of Creative Industries.

She is one of the lead presenters for F1 TV, presenting from Grands Prix all over the world, and presented international rugby for Prime Video Sport, and European rugby reporting for BT Sport and ViaPlay.

Laura has also worked in broadcast roles for the BBC, ITV Sport and Eurosport, as well as England Rugby host for the Six Nations, and presenter at sporting events including the Horse of the Year Show.

She also has her own podcast, Lessons Learned, interviewing star sportsmen and women about the key lessons that life has taught them.

Laura is currently mentoring a number of female students on the course and will be joining final-year students on a trip to Silverstone next month.

Laura said: “I’m absolutely thrilled and feel immensely honoured to have been appointed as course associate for the Sports Journalism programme at University of Gloucestershire.

“I’m really excited about sharing my experience with the students and providing them with insights that, hopefully, will benefit them while they’re studying for a degree and, when they graduate, working in sports broadcasting themselves.”

Brendan McLoughlin, Course Leader and Senior Lecturer in Sports Journalism, said: “We’re delighted that Laura, who has enjoyed such as extensive career in sports broadcasting, has accepted our invitation to become course associate for our BA (Hons) Sports Journalism degree.

“Laura is so passionate about sports broadcasting and highly engaging that we’ve no doubt she will make a valuable contribution to inspiring our students and helping to prepare them for a career in the industry.”
