Film Production students’ short film Fruity to air on BBC Four

A short film created by Film Production students will air on BBC Four on Monday 8 March as part of a BBC Introducing Arts programme on Women in Film.

“Fruity” is a BBC New Creatives short film funded by Arts Council England and BBC Arts.

Final year student Anna Mouzouri was commissioned by Calling the Shots to create the BBC New Creatives film.

The short film, which tells the story of a lonely lesbian plagued with thoughts of fruit, was shot with the support of the University during the summer of 2020.

Anna was mentored by Course Leader Mike Parker and the production was crewed by students from the course.

The BBC Four broadcast is timed to celebrate International Women’s Day 2021.

Cultural historian Janina Ramirez will present the collection of intriguing and exciting short films by emerging women directors and artists, including Anna. Each film gives a female perspective on modern-day topics from body image and new love to grief and belonging. Expect honest and refreshing storytelling that will make you laugh, make you cry and make you think.
