Outreach sessions for Year 10 and 11 students
Participants worked through a range of mini activities to build their skills in smartphone-based photography, making use of different perspectives, types of light, and a range of photography styles. Throughout the session, a WhatsApp group ‘pinged’ as pupils’ photos were sent in for comment. The session was highly interactive and received very positive feedback from participants.
The photography session was the first of six Saturday-sessions being held in the run up to Christmas, with other subjects such as engineering, animal science, health and music production going virtual too. Even more sessions will be offered in the new year.
The University of Gloucestershire Outreach Team works with schools and colleges in the South West and Midlands, delivering activities and events for students − designed to help them make informed choices about progression to Higher Education.
The sessions are funded and co-ordinated by the GROWS partnership, which works to raise aspirations for young people in Gloucestershire as part of the uniconnect programme. The partnership includes the University of Gloucestershire, the Royal Agricultural University, Gloucestershire College, Cirencester College, Hartpury University and Hartpury College, and South Gloucestershire and Stroud College.
