Professor of Cyber Security joins Carnegie FinCyber Project

University of Gloucestershire Professor of Cyber Security, Cameron ‘Buck’ Rogers, has joined the Advisory Group for the prestigious Carnegie FinCyber Project – set up to protect financial systems against cyber threats.

In 2019, the Carnegie ‘Cyber Policy Initiative’ launched the FinCyber Project to develop an ‘International Strategy for Cybersecurity and the Global Financial System’. The Project provides innovative research, actionable policy proposals, and regular updates on key developments for decision makers in governments, industry and other stakeholders. 

The FinCyber Project provides a unique platform for experts from the financial world to collaborate with stakeholders from the foreign policy, technical, and development communities to advance a long-term vision to better protect the global financial system against cyber threats.

Following a 15-year career in the Royal Navy, Professor Rogers held a number of senior leadership roles at the Ministry of Defence. He then joined the Bank of England where he was Chief Information Security Officer and latterly Chief Security Officer. In June 2019, Professor Rogers joined HSBC as Group Head of Resilience Advisory Function. He currently works in the defence industry.

Professor Rogers holds a Professorship in Cyber Security at the University of Gloucestershire, and in recognition of his contributions to the information security industry he was awarded a Fellowship from the Council of Registered Ethical Security Testers (CREST).

Professor Rogers said:

“My role on the Carnegie FinCyber Project and my Professorship at the University of Gloucestershire dovetail really well. It is important for think tanks, universities and industry to bring their very best people and expertise to the growing problem of cyber security, particularly in financial settings.

“The Covid-19 pandemic has only increased the importance of protecting against cyber security breaches, especially as work life and home life merge, now is the time to take a proactive approach to protecting what is important to us all. Good cyber security is key to this.”

The University of Gloucestershire was the first to launch a Level 6 Cyber Security Degree Apprenticeship.

The university also offers BSc degrees in Cyber and Computer Security and Computer and Cyber Forensics plus MSc degrees in Cyber Security and Cyber Forensic Investigation.
