Student songwriter selected for 2000trees 2018 line-up

University of Gloucestershire Popular Music student, Jack Cooper, has been chosen to perform at this year’s 2000trees festival after impressing judges at a showcase earlier this month. Jack competed against five other student acts at the Frog and Fiddle in Cheltenham to win a slot on the multi-award-winning festival’s Forest Sessions stage.

This year 2000trees will feature musical talent headliners Enter Shikari and At The Drive In, and has won five national awards. The Gloucestershire-based festival features three full days of livemusic, comedy and family fun, and is aimed at individuals who enjoy independent music. In January was named “Britain’s Coolest Festival” by Kerrang! magazine.

This is the tenth year the festival has partnered with the university, and will offer 20 placements to current undergraduates in a range of roles including artist liaison, event and stage management and videography, giving the students relevant and memorable opportunities to help with future career goals and employability.

Jack Cooper, Popular Music student at the University of Gloucestershire, said:

“It feels great to have been selected to perform at 2000trees as it’s such a big local event which I have always wanted to be involved with. For me performing is where everything comes together, making a connection with the audience and feeding off the energy with my band is one of the best feelings. I love artists that go all out in a performance and that is a trait I try to embody.”

Andy Rea, 2000trees organiser, said:

“Our partnership with the university goes from strength to strength and the annual Student Showcase has helped us discover many really talented young musicians year after year, who are honing their skills and preparing for great things. This year’s event was no different, and we are delighted to welcome Jack to join us for what I’m sure will be a very memorable performance at 2000trees, I’m sure he’ll pick up many new fans during the weekend.”

This year’s 2000trees festival will take place at Upcote Farm on from the 12 to 14 July. Tickets for the festival are now open to the public and can be purchased from the festival’s website.
