University climbs 32 places in THE student experience rankings

The University of Gloucestershire is celebrating a substantial rise of 32 places in the Times Higher Education (THE) Student Experience Survey rankings for 2016.

The university has achieved one of the highest increases of all universities in the country, rising to 62nd place out of 117 UK universities in this year’s rankings announced today.

Now in its 11th year, the THE Student Experience Survey looks at the broader definition of student experience, created by students themselves, that includes those aspects of university life that matter most to them.

The University of Gloucestershire scores highly for areas including ‘high quality staff and lectures’, ‘good environment on campus’, ‘good personal relationships with teaching staff’ and ‘good library and library opening times’, as well as the question: ‘I would recommend my university to a friend’.

University of Gloucestershire Vice-Chancellor, Stephen Marston, said: “This is good news for the University of Gloucestershire and for both our current and prospective students.

“We are pleased with our improved ranking, rising 32 places in this year’s THE Student Experience Survey. We believe this shows that the university is making progress in achieving our ambitions to provide our students with excellent teaching and learning, and to equip them with a great foundation for their future careers, whilst providing a rich student experience along the way.”

“The university has recently invested heavily in new teaching facilities for performing arts, computing and cyber security and media courses. These improvements are being reflected in marked increases in undergraduate applications for 2016.

“We are on track to complete our new 794 bed student village at Pittville in Cheltenham in September 2017. The university has also recently received outline planning permission to build a new Business School, student accommodation and improved sports facilities at our Oxstalls campus in Gloucester. These investments will further improve the facilities for our students.”
