University of Gloucestershire climbs in national student opinion rankings

The University of Gloucestershire has achieved a rise in two national league tables based on student opinions.

A month after achieving a 30 point rise in the Times Higher Education (THE) Student Experience Survey results for 2016, the university has jumped 30 places in the 2016 Whatuni Student Choice rankings.

In the latest Whatuni rankings published on Friday (15 April) the university climbed to 32nd place out of a total of 125 UK universities*, and now ranks 12th of all ‘post-1992’ universities. The university is among the top 20 universities on the specific aspects of ‘student support’, ‘courses and lecturers’, and ‘international’.

Whatuni provides the only national university league table based entirely on the opinions of students and recent graduates of universities. The positions are based on averages taken from 25,000 reviews submitted nationwide.

Stephen Marston, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Gloucestershire, said: “I am delighted the University of Gloucestershire has received this endorsement from our students this year. It shows that we are making progress in our ambition to give students excellent teaching and learning, and a rich and rewarding student experience.

“The university is committed to giving our students a strong foundation for their future and helping them realise their potential. We have been rated highly in key areas such as student support, the quality of our courses and lecturers, and the experience of our international students.

“These results reflect the skill and dedication of the university’s staff providing outstanding teaching and strong student support.”

History student Stan** said: “The university has a great essence of community. I had the best three years studying there, receiving a high-quality education which has left me prepared for the future and proud of myself. The university atmosphere is relatively relaxed and is a great place to make friends for life. I wouldn’t have wanted to go anywhere else, it is the best decision I have ever made!”

Law student Roo said: “The support I have received since starting has been exceptional. My tutors and the staff on the Law degree are of the highest calibre and helped and encouraged me every step of the way. My confidence has been greatly improved and I have achieved things I never thought possible.”

*Over the last year, 25,000 reviews were collected; 125 universities met the minimum threshold to be included in the rankings.
