University commissioned by UK Athletics to lead new study

University of Gloucestershire has been commissioned by UK Athletics (UKA) to lead an important new study around transgender athletes.

Experts from the University will consult with transgender athletes and advocacy groups to examine how the sport of athletics can be as inclusive and welcoming as possible.

The University’s written report and recommendations will be delivered to UKA based on the consultation data and analysis of findings, and will be considered during the creation of UKA’s Transgender Policy.

UKA began the tender process for an academic institution to lead on the consultation following the publication of its principle statement on Transgender Eligibility in Athletics in the UK in March 2023.
