University hosts ‘Find Your Future’ event to help more young people access Higher Education

An event designed to inform and inspire parents and pupils from local schools about the possibilities of higher education was held this weekend at Oxstalls Campus, 21 October.

The purpose of the event was to support parents and pupils in making key post 16 decisions about education, demystify further and higher education and provide an opportunity to experience a range of activities linked to post degree level study careers.

The event was created by GROWS, a network of six Gloucestershire based universities and colleges, and together they collaborated with local schools and colleges to encourage young students to raise their academic aspirations.

MP Alex Chalk delivered a speech on the day focused around future employment growth in Gloucestershire, with particular emphasis on cyber and security; two areas that the University has invested in through its Business School.

Becky Tomkins, Project Lead GROWS, said: “Giving young people and their families access to information as early as possible to inform their decisions on their future education and career paths is so important, especially with so many new and different routes available to them.  University level study includes what people would think of as the standard route as well as university courses available in Further education colleges and higher and degree apprenticeships.”
