University of Gloucestershire courses top table for student experience and teaching quality

The University of Gloucestershire has ranked first in the UK for student experience and teaching quality in Geography and Environmental Sciences, Biological Sciences and Philosophy, in The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2022.

As well as climbing 13 places in the table overall, there have been a range of stand-out performances in some courses. In addition to the trio of table-toppers, there were also top ten places for Theology and Religious Studies (second nationally for student experience and teaching quality), Creative Writing (sixth for teaching quality) and Psychology (ninth for teaching quality).

Psychology, Communications and Media Studies and Social Work ranked 16th overall for student experience. There were also top 20 places for English (11th for teaching quality and 17th for student experience), Criminology (10th for student experience and 11th for teaching quality) and Education (18th for teaching quality and 11th for student experience).

The University also saw an improvement in the number of first-class and 2:1 Honours degrees awarded, and is in the top quartile for social inclusion. It also features in the top half of the table based on the Guide’s analysis of the pandemic-influenced 2021 National Student Survey outcomes. The commentary reads:

“The university has a preference for in-person rather than online delivery. Responding to student feedback, Gloucestershire has promised to give face-to-face teaching priority wherever possible and will use digital methods only if they offer a better learning experience.”

The University’s strong commitment to sustainability and extensive sporting facilities and pedigree are also singled out in the guide, which features all 135 UK Universities.
