Create the future of gaming in cutting-edge spaces. Our high-spec computing suites feature professional-grade equipment, including Sony and Nintendo development kits, VR headsets, PlayStation VR, HoloLens, photogrammetry kits, motion capture technology, and more.

Using powerful software like Unreal Engine, Unity, and Adobe Creative Cloud, you’ll be equipped to push the boundaries of what games can be.

This course offers a distinctive approach to game production, combining creative vision with technical proficiency. You’ll develop the skills to take projects from concept to completion using industry-standard tools and methodologies such as Agile, rapid prototyping, and iterative playtesting.

Teaching is structured into 4 weekly sessions, each combining lectures, seminars, and practical workshops designed to foster collaboration and hands-on learning. You’ll work extensively with leading game engines like Unity and Unreal, gaining skills applicable across industries including architecture, product design, VFX, AR, and VR.

Our dedicated lecturers provide ongoing support, mentoring you through project work and helping you build strong professional foundations. Real-world experience is built into the course through live briefs, industry events, end-of-year showcases, and field trips in the UK and abroad. Modules focused on networking and portfolio development ensure you are career-ready and well-positioned for employment.

Integrated foundation year

This course is available to study with an integrated foundation year – an extra, introductory year at the beginning of the full degree. If you don’t meet the stated entry requirements or you’re returning to education, it could be a great option that enables you to study this course.

As well as an introduction to your subject, it will help you to develop valuable study skills, and communication, teamwork and problem-solving techniques, giving you the confidence and skills set you need to progress.

If you’re applying to study as an international student, an integrated foundation year can also support you to improve your English language skills alongside your studies.

To apply for this course with an integrated foundation year, select the ‘With foundation year’ study type from the options at the top of this page before clicking ‘Apply’.

Graduates of this course have gone on to become game artists, designers, VFX specialists, UI designers, and technical artists.

In your second year, you’ll take the Professional Awareness module, designed to strengthen your CV, portfolio, and interview skills, while providing you with experience as a contractor.

You may also have the opportunity to take a placement year, either working in industry or with our internal Games Research Team. The final year offers additional opportunities to further refine your skills and portfolio through dedicated modules.

Previous Games Design students have secured placements with leading industry names such as Unity, Dyson, Meta, Rebellion, Sumo Digital, Flix Interactive, and many more.

Entry Requirements
