Before you apply, it is helpful to identify how your proposed research links to the areas of specialism and expertise within the relevant School.

Applying online

You can save your application at any time and return to it later if you want to. At this stage, your application cannot be seen by the University, only by you.

Our research priority areas also provide a good insight into areas of current research and academic expertise. If you find a staff profile of interest, you may also benefit from having a look at their research outputs in our open access research repository.

You will need to submit the following with your application:
  • Your proposal
  • Your CV
  • Copies of your degree certificates and transcripts
  • Details of your references
  • International students will need to submit evidence of their English language proficiency

Entry requirements

In order to start a research degree, your proposal will need to be accepted by your potential supervisors. This makes your proposal a crucial part of your application. For tips on writing a successful proposal, please see our guide to writing a research proposal.

What happens next?

We’ll be in touch once we have received your application. This will be checked in admissions and if we require anything further then we will be in touch – we aim to respond to your application within 6-8 weeks. We will then send applications to the School Postgraduate Research Lead for review of your proposal. If there is interest from supervisors within the research group, we will then invite you to interview.
