This course will provide you with a valuable foundation year by developing your understanding of the health and social care professions, academic confidence and ability. The course also guarantees an interview for entry to professional Health and Social Care degrees at University of Gloucestershire.
If you’re looking for an exhilarating and rewarding career at the frontline of health and social care, we’ll equip you with the knowledge and experience you need to be successful. You’ll gain experience and knowledge in contemporary health and social care contexts, all preparing for your future professional career in a dynamic, in-demand role.
If you’re already employed, this course will allow you to continue to earn while you study, as it’s a day-release programme. You’ll gain the confidence, essential academic theory and practical abilities for a career in health and social care settings – giving you the opportunity to progress onto a relevant full (3 year) degree with us. You’ll be guaranteed an interview for our Nursing, Mental Health Nursing, Learning Disability Nursing, Paramedic Science, Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Diagnostic Radiography, Operating Departmental Practice or Social Work programmes, and we’ll fully support you in creating your application and preparing for the interview.
The course is taught over two semesters and is based at our Oxstalls campus in Gloucester – alongside our Social Work, Nursing and Paramedic Science courses. Here you’ll have access to specialist facilities, including the simulated hospital ward and a bungalow where we simulate health and social care scenarios. You’ll be taught by accomplished and accredited lecturers with extensive knowledge of the health and social care field.
Our curriculum includes a mix of active learning in the classroom, online and through Interactive Skills Development Days. Skills Development Days will offer you the opportunity to apply theory to practice in a safe and supportive environment – reflecting on what you do with experienced professionals in real-world settings.
It’s planned that this course will be taught at UoG’s new campus in Gloucester city centre from September 2025.
The vibrant campus will be at the heart of the regeneration of Gloucester city centre. It will bring an iconic building back to life as a modern centre for teaching, learning and community partnerships, through placements, research and outreach activity, and provide cutting-edge facilities for your course.
