Being outside my comfort zone has been invaluable

Second year student Georgina is studying BA (Hons ) Illustration:

“I chose illustration as my course because of a magazine that I had read which was an illustrated special. I was really lit up by the imagery I saw and felt like it would be something I would really enjoy doing in the future. I had visited Cheltenham a number of times and a friend said the illustration course was great at UOG.

“The modules consistently push me out of my comfort zone and progress my skills as an illustrator. It’s challenging to live outside of your comfort zone, but it has been invaluable for my progression.

“The Lecturers vastly differ in their skill set providing us with different perspectives and viewpoints to push our own skills and style. It has been really useful to learn about their creative journeys and has helped me to start thinking about my own journey post uni.

“The print-making room is the heart of the illustration studio. It has opened my eyes to so many new techniques. I’ve really enjoyed learning about screen-printing and risograph. Recently, in an animation module I created a riso-graph animation which entailed creating the animation digitally frame by frame, then manually printing it through the risograph which created a really interesting look.

“My favourite thing about living in Gloucestershire is being well connected to the west. I’ve managed to travel easily to the beaches and mountains in Wales as well as being a short train ride away to Bristol.  Cheltenham has so many beautiful parks and cafes it’s a lovely place to people watch.”
