Differentiate yourself with professional work experience

When it came to choosing the right university, Business Management graduate Josh Dalton picked the University of Gloucestershire on the strength of its placements. On graduating in 2012, he joined the Hewlett-Packard procurement graduate scheme, working in a number of roles and organisations, and Josh now works at the world’s leading education company, Pearson. Josh is Manager – Global Procurement, at Pearson, an education management company which has more than 24,000 employees in 70 countries. He found going to university has had a profound impact on his life and career, predominantly through his placement year, and he believes this is key for future graduates. “I was able to graduate with a degree and a full year of professional work experience. I couldn’t stress more the importance of undertaking a placement year. There are many students with degrees nowadays, so differentiate yourself by having a degree and a year of professional work experience. You’ll be more attractive to recruiters and it will give you a great kick start to your career.”
