I am inspired by my local community

Amanda Steer has a background in fashion design and is studying a Master’s in Illustration.

I had been out of this profession for a number of years while raising my own family, and eventually working with young children. Initially, I joined the MA course with a leaning towards illustrating children’s books but soon found, as I had hoped, that there were many other outlets for illustration to be explored.

The facilities and opportunities at University of Gloucestershire are vast, and the technical support has been amazing. As I am now graduating, I know I will miss the studio the most. I have spent a lot of my time there developing my skills and making lifelong friends.

I am inspired by my local community and have been fortunate to work with We Create, a community arts action group, illustrating for publications. I wish to continue using my illustration skills as a research and recording method to connect people to places, and to inform my printmaking compositions.
