I’m hoping to make a difference with my research

After graduating with a degree in BSc (Hons) Biology, Rachel Bowsher took her laboratory skills to the next level when she secured a PhD.

“I thoroughly enjoyed my time at UoG and would go back and do it all again! The relatively small cohort of students created a family-like atmosphere and staff were very helpful to answer questions and give career advice. This also ensured the course was very ‘hands on’ both inside the lab, and outside on the many field-trip courses.

“In the biotechnology module, we undertook a gel electrophoresis and PCR practical that provided me with the skills to undertake my dissertation on E. Coli transmission. I was able to design my own dissertation project to follow my interests, and my supervisor was always available to help steer the project and for advice.

“The laboratory skills I learnt while studying my degree in Biology at UoG helped me to pursue science further and secure my PhD. I’m hoping to make a difference with my research, both in the UK and overseas.”
