It is a great experience to study here.

Pakistan / MSc Engineering Management

Nahid Mosharraf is from Karachi in Pakistan. She completed bachelor’s in Urban Infrastructure Engineering, after which she did masters in Transportation Engineering, from NED University of Engineering and Technology.

Due to her continuous hard work, she became a senior lecturer at the University teaching undergraduate students and overseeing engineering mechanics lab. Nahid is also a blogger and runs a YouTube channel through which she publishes videos to teach students and make learning easier for the undergraduate students. She is also passionate about research and did a project on finding partial replacement for the cement and creating a more environment-friendly concrete.

During the pandemic, Nahid quickly adapted her teaching to virtual learning environment, but the pandemic also showed her that she wanted to develop her teaching further and gain knowledge and skills. She decided to challenge herself by studying in the UK.

Scholarship

“I got the admission to University of Gloucestershire in the MSc in Engineering Management, and after getting admission I have applied for the scholarship as well. And the best thing is that I got the scholarship and that was 50% scholarship! Me and my husband were so happy and took it as a sign because we have to move with the three kids as well. It is quite expensive for us, but it was the good turn in our life.”

Course

”What I have learned from the University of Gloucestershire is writing. My quality of writing has improved a lot. I have learned the research writing skills properly. And the main person who helped us a lot in writing reports is Dr. Shujun I am very happy that I started to work on my research skills. And in the beginning, it was taking me around 15 to 20 days to write reports, but right now I am able to complete my reports within five days because I am getting familiar with the topics and with the writing skills. I announced my vocabulary as well.”

“Right now, I am doing the citation with David Plumber, he is my supervisor. He is helping me a lot. What we are trying to research is what are companies doing to achieve carbon zero and what are the ways they are trying to reduce their carbon footprints in their operations supply chains and manufacturing.”

“It is a great experience to study over here. Personal tutors are very cooperative and helpful. My personal tutor is great, she told me that she was also the international student. She faced the troubles and difficulties during that period. She also understands mothers and women. Those who

have the experience of moving from other countries here understand that it is quite tough time to face for us because we have to study as well.“

Family

“It was quite a difficult decision to make. I was working and I was asking myself how can I manage it over there? We wanted a country where English is the main language, and the schools are good and affordable. I go to university, and come hoe late, at six and seven o’clock. My husband is working nightshift so that he can look after the kids. I have great support from my sister-in-law, and my brother-in-law who also live over here. The kids are young, and they need me. They need to listen to stories from me in the night. I have to give a lot of time to them, teach them about good habits and bad habits. These are parts of my job and responsibility as well.”

Immigration team

“Whenever I email to the immigration team or anybody at the university, they respond to me properly and offer help with filling in the visa forms. I have four dependents: my husband and my three kids. When you’re applying for the visa, it can be rejected, or it can be accepted. And obviously you are running out for the money as well. I got a lot of guidance from the immigration team. I got the CAS confirmation acceptance letter within a week because I have provided all the details. It was a good experience for me, and they guide me a lot during all the procedures and the problems I encountered.

Future

“I got two postgraduate degrees and I am very passionate to do PhD with the University of Gloucestershire, I’m trying to search for a scholarship. Right now, I am doing an experimental investigation and tests, but I can also go with the jobs in the sector of engineering management, transportation or civil engineering and the construction. I can go for the teaching in the universities as well. I will try my best.”

“When you struggle a lot for anything, I guarantee you that you will get it. I strongly believe in that. Sometimes you are having the failure, but failures mean you will improve yourself more. When you have a strong belief, you will get it and achieve it.”
