Lecturers go above and beyond, showing that students are the priority

“My lecturers have probably been my favourite thing about my time at uni. They have gone above and beyond on many occasions and have constantly shown that their students are their priority.”

Megan is in her third year of the Education degree course. She has completed a 90 hour placement and is doing an equality and diversity internship for the university.

“My lecturers have probably been my favourite thing about my time at uni! They have gone above and beyond on many occasions and have constantly shown that their students are their priority. They constantly seek to challenge us and there have been many occasions where I’ve left lectures feeling confused, however if it wasn’t for them pushing me I wouldn’t have achieved anything that I have over these few years. Their doors are always open, even if I turn up only a few minutes before they are leaving for the day.

There have been many opportunities for further development of skills available both within and outside of my course – several of which I have been lucky enough to benefit from. Firstly, I undertook a placement which involved working 90 hours with the Education Officer at a local animal shelter where I supported a range of learners and contributed to educational planning. This experience was something I hadn’t considered trying for but offered me a chance to transfer existing skills to a new environment and explore more informal learning. In my second year I was appointed as the subject representative for the education and early years courses where I worked with staff and students to enhance and develop the student experience. I am also doing an equality and diversity internship with the Equality and Diversity Manager for the university. This is particularly relevant and useful to me as this is an area I am considering going into after university.

After completing this year I am hoping to progress into either a graduate training scheme or employment in adult-based education such as learning and development, human resources, training or outreach / widening participation.”
