Why choose UoG?

Join one of the UK’s top-ranked bioscience communities and take action on the planet’s biodiversity crisis. At UoG, you’ll study wildlife conservation through a fresh lens, exploring disease, behaviour, conflict, and rewilding while gaining hands-on experience in small, supportive classes.

Top reasons to study this course

Earth’s sixth mass extinction is underway, driven by humans at a rate far faster than that previously achieved through natural environmental changes of the past. This course will provide you with the knowledge and skills to help you contribute to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals for rebalancing life on our planet by halting and reversing biodiversity loss.

Examining the interplay between wildlife disease, behaviour, crime and conflict with humans, this course takes a unique lens to the study of conservation and rewilding.

Through sustainable and proportionate approaches to travel, you’ll also have the opportunity to study wildlife conservation biology overseas, progressing from field training in the UK to field research on game reserves in the African savannah, in the tropical rainforests of Costa Rica or across the rewilding landscapes of the Alps.

To support your undergraduate journey, we also offer fee waivers, bursaries and awards, for both UK and International students. At the end, as a Gloucestershire graduate you can choose to pursue one of our postgraduate courses, receiving a priority offer and an alumni fees discount

This flexible course is offered in both a standard three-year and a four-year format with a placement option. You can choose to add or remove the placement until the end of your second year.

With a focus on science and policy, ecology, and conservation themes, you’ll develop both employability skills and theoretical knowledge. Small to medium-sized classes promote active learning and provide plenty of hands-on experience in the classroom, lab, and field.

The course team is committed to preparing you for your future career, so assessments are designed around real-world tasks, such as writing consultancy reports, creating lab portfolios, producing executive summaries, research reports, posters, websites and the like. And since biological careers don’t require instant recall of information, we don’t use exams to assess those skills.

This wildlife conservation biology course offers both short-term internships and year-long placement opportunities, allowing students to gain hands-on experience in the field. Participants will have the chance to build professional connections, engage with industry employers, and earn academic credit toward their degree.

Recent students have worked with zoos, wildlife conservation organisations, and environmental agencies. Others have contributed to vital research in areas such as species protection, habitat restoration, conservation genetics, and wildlife monitoring using cutting-edge technology like thermal imaging.

Graduates of this course are well-equipped to pursue careers as wildlife conservationists, ecologists, environmental educators, habitat restoration specialists, conservation biologists, researchers, and ecological consultants
