Graduation gowns and photographs
Students (graduands), including those from partner colleges, must wear full University of Gloucestershire academic dress to take part in the ceremonies. Academic dress constitutes an appropriate graduation gown with the correct hood and mortarboard.
Please ensure you hire your academic dress as soon as possible. The University’s official supplier is Ede & Ravenscroft and we strongly recommend that your hire your academic dress through them*.
The Ede & Ravenscroft booking system for graduation gowns will open on 22 June 2023. The deadline for ordering gowns with Ede & Ravenscroft is 1 November 2023.
When booking through Ede & Ravenscroft, you will need to specify that your award is from University of Gloucestershire, the date of your ceremony and the level of your award (eg Bachelors, Masters, Postgraduate Certificate/Diploma), and the ceremony date/time.
If you are in any doubt about which gown to order, please email firstname.lastname@example.org. You will collect your gown on your Graduation Day and will also be able to return your gown on the day.
Don’t forget to bring your Ede & Ravenscroft booking receipt with you on the day.
It is recommended that you wear a top or shirt that buttons up to the neck, as this makes it easier to attach the hood. It may be useful to bring some safety pins with you to secure the hood to your gown if you don’t have buttons on your clothing.
Remember – it is your responsibility to make your own arrangements with Ede & Ravenscroft for the hire of academic gowns so please do this soon after booking your graduation tickets.
Official photography on the day is provided by Ede & Ravenscroft and is available throughout the day. You can book this at the same time as booking your gown. Booking for graduation gowns and photography will open on 22 June 2023.
The busiest times for photography are just before and just after a ceremony – please factor this in when deciding what time to arrive at the venue.
Your photographs will be sent to you by Ede & Ravenscroft around six weeks after the ceremony.
*The University receives commission from Ede & Ravenscroft gown bookings and photography products. All commission received is reinvested into the ceremony and used to subsidise guest ticket prices.
While other gowning providers are available, the University strongly recommends that you hire your gown through the approved supplier, Ede and Ravenscroft. Using the approved supplier will ensure you are gowned appropriately, with good quality academic robes from a reputable dealer whose products the University has confidence in.
By doing this:
- You know that you will have the correct hood for your award (some online suppliers do not differentiate between Bachelors and Diplomas)
- You will have access to Ede & Ravenscroft staff on the day of your graduation, who will ensure you wear the gown correctly
- Your gown will be ready for you at the venue and you can leave your gown onsite rather than posting back to the supplier.
