University student ambassador kit gets the Superdry touch

The University of Gloucestershire has teamed up with Cheltenham-based global lifestyle brand Superdry to create new kit for the university’s student ambassadors – current students who represent and promote the university at a wide range of events. Co-designed by two graphic design students working alongside Superdry Graphic Design Head Matty Charman, the new t-shirts and hoodies sport the university crest, its UCAS reference number – G50, and the Superdry logo.

The collaboration is just the latest activity as part of a partnership between the university and Superdry who have contributed over the past few years to several courses such as photography, graphic design and fashion, providing guest speakers, live briefs, critiques and work placements for students at their Cheltenham headquarters.

The designs were chosen following a competition won by two Graphic Design students, George Mason and Shaun Whitefield. George Mason said: “My favourite part of the process was the morning at Superdry where we spent a few hours going over different designs which we had put together. We had an amazing time working with Matty and were made to feel extremely welcome throughout the day, to the extent of even being invited back for more work experience in the future”.

Shaun Whitefield said: “Being offered the chance to work with Superdry was an incredible opportunity; one that I have learnt a lot from. It allowed me to understand the whole design process from a completely different point of view. It was also a privilege to be able to work alongside Matty. George and I produced some designs but with Matty’s help we developed these ideas further. He made some alterations to keep the Superdry look and feel within the clothing whilst still keeping to the original designs.”

Jez Light, Learning and Development Manager for SuperGroup Plc, said: “We love partnering with the university across many of their degree qualifications and it’s really exciting to be part of a collaboration that created a physical Superdry product at the end. It’s all part of our continued pledge to work with and develop our local education partners in Cheltenham and Gloucestershire.”
