University of Gloucestershire announces new photography award named after acclaimed photojournalist Tom Stoddart

​​​​Known for his distinctive black and white pictures, Tom Stoddart has documented key moments in history from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the World Trade Centre attacks. Firmly established as one of the worlds most respected photographers, he is now lending his name to the new Tom Stoddart Photojournalism award. ​

The annual competition for students of Photojournalism and Documentary Photography, will recognize and encourage talent at the University of Gloucestershire. The award winner will be chosen by Tom Stoddart himself from shortlisted entries and announced in April. Canon, who are supporting the award have donated a Canon M50 mirrorless camera kit that will be presented to the winner.

Photojournalist Tom Stoddart says:
“I’m honoured that the award will carry my name. Congratulations on getting support from Canon. I’m sure the students will be delighted at the chance of winning a camera.” 

Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Course Leader, Paul Roberts said:
“This award gives students the opportunity to have their work scrutinised by one of the most renowned photojournalists in the UK, our hope is that this will inspire them to achieve their aims to become practicing photojournalist at a time when the world desperately needs photographers to document the truth of the world.”
