University’s development of student learning opportunities is commended with UK Quality Mark
The University of Gloucestershire has received commended for its enhancement of student learning opportunities and had its quality and standards for academic provision confirmed by the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA).
The QAA has today (Thursday, 23 July) confirmed the quality and standards of provision at the University following the review that it carried out in April 2015.
A team of QAA reviewers visited the University and judged that its academic standards, the quality of its student learning opportunities, and the quality of information about its learning opportunities all meet UK expectations and the enhancement of its student learning opportunities is commended.
The review identified a number of examples of good practice. These include:
- the Degreeplus scheme which provides students with a range of extracurricular opportunities and awards to support high participation in placements and internships
- the wide range of effective initiatives which integrate employability and sustainability into the curriculum
- the School representative system which strengthens student engagement in quality assurance and decision-making at senior levels.
The review also highlighted the strategic engagement with colleges, employers and the Local Enterprise Partnership to widen participation and support student learning opportunities and development.
The successful review means that the University can display the QAA Quality Mark, indicating to UK and international students that the University meets national requirements for standards and quality.
University of Gloucestershire Vice-Chancellor, Stephen Marston, said: “The University is pleased that the QAA has confirmed the quality and standards of our academic provision and particularly pleased that our work on enhancing student learning has been commended along with many examples of good practice. The University is committed both to providing outstanding learning for our students, and to supporting them to gain the skills for successful future careers. This has been a major focus of our strategy for several years, and we are delighted to receive this independent affirmation of the success achieved so far.”
QAA’s Higher Education Reviews are carried out by experts from other universities and colleges. Every review team includes a student reviewer, because QAA believes that students should be partners in the quality assurance of their education.
The team that reviewed the University of Gloucestershire included Dr Mark Atlay (University of Bedfordshire), Professor Susan Blake (City University London), Dr Mary Meldrum (Manchester Metropolitan University), Professor John Baldock (University of Kent), Mrs Sue Gregory (University of Plymouth) and Mr Sam Butler (student reviewer from the University of Liverpool).
